Should atheists in the military be allowed to meet ?

www.militaryreligiousfree...ailed.html

Here is a link to a soldier who was denied the right to meet with fellow atheists. He was sent away from the dinner table at Thanksgiving for refusing to pray, a meeting he held with fellow atheists was disrupted and he was threatened with being charged for violating the military uniform code. He was also threatened to have his re-enlistment blocked if his atheist group continued to meet.

Now, I know SOME Christians, if they aren't trying to justify this guys behavior will probobly just say "well he's not a REAL Christian"

Here's the guys myspace page

I'd say judging from his myspace page, he IS a Christian.

As long as there is no ideological risk, the different systems of religion or atheistic beliefs need not be subjects of prejudice.

Should atheists in the military be allowed to meet ?

Absolutely. These brave soldiers are fighting for religious freedom (among other things), and true religious freedom includes the right to choose freedom FROM religion. The military *should* be the first and most staunch defender of such rights. It is despicable if they are not.

No, there should absolutely NOT be any religious test for people wanting to join the military. That would be religious discrimination and it's illegal.

Your link isn't working, I would really like some sources on this one..sounds unbelievable.

Should atheists in the military be allowed to meet ?

Well I am an atheist that was in the Army. I am going to tell you flat out, there are several reasons that I don't believe the guys story. And NO ONE ever prayed at the chow hall. Well OK, they were usually the ones off by themselves because they didn't like the topic of conversation that the rest of the 18-25 year old males engaged in.

If the Military doesn't follow the Constitution, how can we trust them to defend the Constitution?

Whoever was responsible for trammelling this guy's constitutional rights should be bounced right out of the Army.

And I would say the same if it was a Christian soldier having his religious rights violated, too.

Should atheists in the military be allowed to meet ?

First of all, your preamble is confusing and ambiguous. You state he is an atheist and a Christian, it can't be both.

There should be no litmus tests to join anything, including the military, unless it's a private club or organization.

Should atheists in the military be allowed to meet ?

It sounds more and more like there is an active attempt by Christians to take over the US military.

Atheists, and soldiers of other religions as well, have been coming under increasing pressure to convert. Soldiers who do not participate in Christian church services and prayers are given extra duties, ostracized by their fellow soldiers, and harassed constantly.

I greatly fear for what this means for the future of America as a whole.

How many nations have had their governments subverted by military coups?

Combined with an education system that even when Creationism isn't specifically promoted more and more features curricula that completely avoid any mention of evolution to avoid "controversy", it appears your country is heading more and more towards a Christian theocracy.

At least it appears your economy is tanking because of the actions of many of these same activities, so hopefully you won't drag the rest of the Western world into your rapidly approaching Dark Age.

Should atheists in the military be allowed to meet ?

That is an abomination. The first time I EVER regretted having served.Seriously, the only test for service should be patriotism. What's happening with the Atheist getting bullied out sickens me.If it stands, and one must be Christian to serve,I may actually move out of the US.That is shameful

Should atheists in the military be allowed to meet ?

Oh, I am so ashamed! Please know we are not all like that!
