This person has become a very serious and involved Christian since I last talked with them. I'm not sure how to take the comment. I thought it meant sympathy for Israel but someone told me they took it the opposite way. What would you think?

Why don't you casually ask them what they mean?

doesnt really matter how everyone else takes it, it matters how he means it.

It could mean either or....but why does it matter? When you're a christian you're supposed to pray for everyone...I wouldn't sweat it.

he prays for their salvation since they don't believe in jesus the same as christians

I would ask him to clarify what he means instead of wondering. If it's on his myspace page, I'm sure others have asked him.

Coincidentally, I just connected with an old friend on myspace yesterday. Actually it was my daughter's old friend before we moved. She was 6 or 7 when I last saw her. She's 21 now. She done growed up REAL good.
I hope that answers your question.

It's a scriptural imperative from Psalm 122:
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
"May those who love you be secure.
May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels."

religious fanatics of any religion are weird to me. I would think it was odd he wrote that. be nice, but keep your distance.

I would think it would be for the peace of Jerusalem and for the Jews to recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

Christians often pray for us because they believe we have not accepted the "true" messiah and they pray for us to do so in order for us to be "saved". Often people take great offense to it but I do not. That is their belief system and they are simply expressing it. I believe they follow a false messiah and my Christian friends know that but we still get along.
I would think your friend meant she prays for our souls.

that person targeted only one non christian group...id say either she has really harsh negative feelings for this group, or she is actually trying to conver jews to catholicism

That's a really offensive comment. It's like a backhanded compliment. When someone says they pray for you, they never mean it in a good way.
If he's so Christian, does he realize that Jesus was Jewish and if his whole religion is based on Jesus, there is no room for anti-semitism in his beliefs? Good luck in dealing with this person, but I think you really have to reconsider whether you want to "reconnect' with a person so full of hate. What happened to Christianity spreading love to everyone and turning the other cheek? Guess he missed church that day...

I'm under the impression that he is praying for them because they don't think Jesus Christ is the Messiah.

Ask them, give them the chance to clarify. Then you can choose if you will get back involved with them.

I pray for the Jews and I pray for peace in Jerusalem and Israel. I pray for protection and provision in Israel and in America. It is compassion for Israel as we watch the Muslim world encircle around them. They are a cup of trembling as the Bible so states because all around them they have bombs and gun fire. I do not want Israel giving land away that God gave them in the Bible. They alone have the only real deed to land in all the world. God owns this earth - not man.
Shortly, God will become angry for His land and this evil world will change.

I would think it as a little offensive. Why not for the Atheist or Muslims? It seems like something Mr. T could say and still sound right. I'm not sure if you are a Christian or not, but try to explain that praying for one group and not others seems a little un Christian-like, hopefully he (or she) could maybe re word it.

Just ask, things are misinterpreted all the time. Don't sit around and wonder what you should think.

They probably mean that they pray for the Jews to take off their blindfolds in referring to J*sus. We get a lot of that. Yes, evidently we have had our scriptures too long we don't even know how to read them properly anymore! 5000 years of tradition is worthless in the eyes of a few passionate teenagers who read the Bible on the internet and then decide to save us from our stubbornness!
Ugh.
She also could have meant that she prays for us all to return to Israel so J*sus can come back and either convert or kill us all. Either way, you should ask her.
(That definitely deserves an UGH.)
Peace

We are encouraged by the Bible to pray for the peace of Israel. A true Christian will not hate, we not hate jews, we pray for them to be able to recognize Jesus is the Messiah they are expecting.
---
Hate jews because they rejected Jesus and sent Him to the roman governor for execution is nonsense. We gentiles (non jews) are as responsible for Jesus death as the jews, because it were the romans who decided to go ahead with what the jews requested.

it was not meant to be a friendly comment. xtians are always trying to convert the jews.

Christian believe that scripture ( Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel's 38-39 ) are upon us. More to the point upon Israel. As God has had to do so often to bring His chosen back they will be wounded and miraculously saved.
I believe that the deal being made over the Temple Mount will seal the fate of many.
I also believe the Temple will be rebuilt in Shiloh where it all began for the Hebrews in Canaan.
I feel so sorry for the poor people trying to cling to Judah and Samaria. As well as Damascus. These will be hurt first and worse. The only safe city in Israel will be Jerusalem, and even She will feel the pain.
However as God shows himself to the world as the Savior and Creator and saves Israel from the PA surrounding her along with the Jordon Palestinians we that are going in the Rapture will be cheering.
Yes we weep for Israel but put our faith in God to save her. The Jews have all my sympathy and support.

I think your friend would mean that he/she prays for the Jews to acquire the state of Israel and to not be persecuted and killed anymore because of their beliefs.
Other people may think about the getting into heaven part, where Jews are left out of heaven because they didn't follow Jesus, which I think is absurd.

I too pray for the Jews that the Lord will bless them and restore the entire Kingdom to them that was theirs at the time of King David, I also pray that they will realize that Jesus is the Messiah they were waiting for. After all the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE means that the claim as to what tribe someone is of would be not able to be confirmed, and the Scriptures are quite clear that Messiah was to be of the Tribe of Judah. When the records were destroyed in 70 CE there is no proof of anyones lineage before that time that can tie them to the Tribe of Judah. So I pray the Jws will receive the Messiah and that they will be blessed above all nations.

I would most certainly take it in a positive light. Christians revere the Jews because Jesus is Jewish.

maybe you should ask them about it. the bible says that god blesses those that bless israel, and curses those that curses israel. and we should always keep them in our prayers. maybe thats all they meant by it. but the only way to know for sure is to bring it up to them. just say that you read it on their myspace and was curious as to what they pray about. if they are really serious as they claim to be about their faith then they shouldn't get offended by the question, besides they shouldn't post something that they don't want someone to ask about, apparenly they don't mind people knowing this about them.

study your bible and you will find that we are all Jews..
Jesus didn't die for a place.......He gave His life for whosoever would believe in Him and call on His name shall be saved....this apples to all man kind world wide....this makes us all Jews.......i don't know you but GOD does. i will pray that GOD will give you His peace and understanding that will settle your soul..............

I would think that his opinion belongs to him/her. It's not for me to judge if they are right or wrong. If it doesn't mess with the rest of your relationship, I say to agree to disagree and get on with the rest of your friendship.
may Peace be with you

if i said, "I pray for the Jews." it would mean that i truly want God to prosper them and give them victory over their foes. this is the last day and many jews will see that Christ is the Messiah and that all the scriptures of the old testament that foretold of the messiah were fullfilled in Christ's birth, death, and resurrection. The Jews believe in One God. some have not been converted to christianity, because some christian separate the Godhead and put Christ as a second "God". the bible says that the fullness of the Godhead dwelt in him bodily. Jews will never believe that there is more than one God because in the old testament the first commandment that was given was "Hear, O, Isreal, the Lord our God is one..." There is only One God. So if i pray for the Jews, it is because I know that they have been serving that one God but they have not yet seen that that one God took on flesh and dwelt among us and became a sacrifice for our sins.

I took it the opposite way. Meaning the jews killed Jesus.
